Form. Content. Method.
FORM
This piece is going to be a 30 seconds to 1 minute abstract time based video. I will be using Maya, Renderman and After Effects to compile the final video together.
CONTENT
This abstract time based piece is going to have blobby particles moving around on the screen in relation to a chosen music piece. Blobby particles is an implicit way of modeling. The shape of the object is determined by the location and density field around it. Therefore, when two blobby particles come into close interaction and the threshold value is high enough, they will be engulfed into a single object. I want to play around with this idea and have blobby particles mix and separate with each other on screen in an abstract way.
METHOD
I plan to have a system developed in Maya which enables me to animate these particles separately. Renderman will read the scene and render out the blobby shapes based on the location and threshold of the particles. If they are close enough, they should be rendered as a single particle. I first plan to script this system to make sure it works. Then, I will finalize a musical piece for my final video. After the music has been chosen, particles will then be animated based on the music and a final video will be put together.
